There are trailer wiring harnesses which have connector terminals other than 4 flat or uscar. The 7 pin n type 12n plug will still be used on o1 trailers and many towbar fitters will still offer the 7 pin socket as the cheapest alternative. I had one vehicle with a 12 pin socket and a trailer with a 7 pin connector and they played happily for years.
